The 1,646 metre high
horseshoe-in-the-Himalayas was founded by Raja Kalyan of the
Chand dynasty in 1560 AD. The Chands ruled over the whole of
Kumaon, and Almora still claims to be the cultural capital of
the area. Traces of the old Chand fort, paved roads, wooden
houses with beautifully carved facades, and homes decorated with
traditional “alpapa” murals still reflect Almora’s pride in its
heritage.

Pithoragarh, the eastern

Nepal on the east. The town is situated in a small valley 2 Km
by 5 Km. Popularly known as the Soar Valley, it lies at the
centre of four hills - Chandak, Dhwaj, Thal Kedar and Kundar.
This lesser known part of Kumaon is very picturesque and often
referred to as “Mini Kashmir”.

with snow throughout the year. This town has breathtaking views
of the Himalayas and the nearby mountains in this area are
perfect for trekking. Munsiyari has very large and varied
vegetation, with many herbs exclusively available here.
It is easily accessible from
Pithoragarh (100 kms approx – 4 ½ hours).

Ranikhet stretches along a
Himalayan ridge, 1,829 metres high. The British established a
summer rest and recreation settlement for their troops here.
Ranikhet still retains much of its army summer home atmosphere
and is far more wooded and quiet than any other hill stations.
Rankhet is, therefore, essentially a walkers and nature-lover’s
resort: quiet, genteel, and very relaxed.

the tiger in India, the Corbett National Park nestles in the

Established in 1936, this
reserve was known as the Hailey National Park. It was later
renamed after Jim Corbett the famous hunter, author and pioneer
