Nainital-Sightseeing

Snow View Situated at 2270 meters this popular vantage point is accessible by rope way. It offers an excellent view of the northern Himalayan ranges.
Naina Peak At 2611 meters this is the highest peak bordering the lake. A popular picnic spot which offers a panoramic view of the resort.
Dorothy’s Seat Named in memory of an English woman who was killed in an air crash. This pleasant spot offers a partial view of Nainital.
Land’s End Situated at 2881 meters on the southern border of the lake, this hill affords a view of another lake, Khurpa Tal.
Hanuman Garhi A place of religious interest, also good for viewing the setting sun.
State Observatory Located on the top of a ridge, the observatory is open to the public in the evening.

Khurpa Tal  10 km/6 mile. A small lake along the Nainital-Kaladhungi-Ramnagar Road, popular with picnickers and anglers.
Bhowali  11 km/6 mile. Situated at an altitude of 1706 meter on the main Haldwani-Almora Road, it is a popular health resort.
Jeolikote  18 km/10 mile. A noted bee-keeping Centre.
Sat Tal  21 km/13.5 mile. One of the most picturesque resorts of Kumaon, it has seven interconnected lakes. KMVN provides accommodation facilities.
BhimTal  22 km/13.5 mile. Fast developing into an independent tourist centre, this lake resort offers a quite vacation and facilities for water sports. KMVN has a Tourist Bungalow here.
Naukuchiyatal  26 km/16.5 mile. A nine-cornered lake situated in an enchanting valley, this is a popular haunt of anglers and naturalists.
Ramgarh  26 km/17 mile. A picturesque hamlet set in the midst of fruit orchards. This fruit belt of Kumaon is famous for its juicy fruits all over India.
Kaladhungi  35 km/22 mile. Situated in the Terai, and surrounded by thick forests of Sal, this was the winter home of Jim Corbett.
Mukteshwar  51 km/33 mile. from Nainital, Mukteshwar set atop a high ridge, is one of Kumaon’s beautiful resorts. It  offers a fine view of the majestic Himalayas, as well as of Almora
Ghorakhal  37 km/23 mile. Famous for the temple of Gollu Devta, a demi god highly revered by the Kumaoni. The famous Sainik School of India is also located here.

 

ALMORA (Recommended Stay – 2 nights)

The 1,646 metre high horseshoe-in-the-Himalayas was founded by Raja Kalyan of the Chand dynasty in 1560 AD. The Chands ruled over the whole of Kumaon, and Almora still claims to be the cultural capital of the area. Traces of the old Chand fort, paved roads, wooden houses with beautifully carved facades, and homes decorated with traditional “alpapa”  murals still reflect Almora’s pride in its heritage.

This lesser known part of Kumaon is very picturesque and often referred to as “Mini Kashmir”.

Munsiyari is situated in the northern part of the Pithoragarh district. This small town is located at the foot of the main Himalayan peaks that are covered with snow throughout the year. This town has breathtaking views of the Himalayas and the nearby mountains in this area are perfect for trekking. Munsiyari has very large and varied vegetation, with many herbs exclusively available here.

It is easily accessible from Pithoragarh (100 kms approx – 4 ½ hours).

Ranikhet stretches along a Himalayan ridge, 1,829 metres high. The British established a summer rest and recreation settlement for their troops here. Ranikhet still retains much of its army summer home atmosphere and is far more wooded and quiet than any other hill stations. Jhoola Devi Temple   This secluded temple dedicated to Durga has beautiful bells, echoes of which can be heard from some distance. Nearby is a temple of Lord Rama. 
Chaubatia Garden  10 kms from Ranikhet on a motorable road, Chaubatia is a vantage point set amidst gardens. On a clear morning a 300 kms wide view of the snow-clad Himalayan peaks can be seen clearly from Chaubatia.

Bhalu Dam   Bhalu Dam is an Artificial Lake and is situated 3 kms away from Ranikhet.

Shitalakhet  35 kms from Ranikhet. Scenic spot offering a fine view of the Himalayas. It has lush orchads and is also known for its herbal and medicinal plants. It is an ideal place for a peaceful holiday.
Dwarahat Famous for its 55 temples divided into 8 groups dating from the 11th century and have some fascinating stone carvings.

One of the finest habitat of the tiger in India, the Corbett National Park nestles in the foothills of the Himalayas in Uttar Pradesh, in the area known as South Patlidun. With its varied topography, diverse flora and fauna and the natural splendor of its landscapes the Park is a precious heritage.

Established in 1936, this reserve was known as the Hailey National Park. It was later renamed after Jim Corbett the famous hunter, author and pioneer conservationist who helped set up this wildlife sanctuary
